Qi Gong

One of the things I like most about my studies lately, is that the teacher I’m studying with pulls freely from so many different cultures and systems.  Even though the focus of the studies is the shamanic practices of north and south american native cultures, we are also studying energy work as taught in the east…  specifically Qi Gong.  From what I understand now, Qi Gong itself has many different lineages and branches, but it boils down to a form of energy work to help build Qi (or chi) in the body.

I can see where this overlaps the shamanic studies.  Everything is basically about energy work and learning to be aware of more subtle energy and spirit at work in our lives.  So, I decided to start looking for ways to deepen my understanding of Qi Gong in Austin, and I think I found a school that I’m going to try.  It doesn’t seem like the same style I’ve started learning, but it sounds very interesting and worth a shot.  It’s called Golden Shield, and you can check out the website here :  http://www.goldenshieldaustin.com/

I’m going to go to my first class at their North location next week and see what its all about.  I’ve been enjoying the little Qi Gong I know, and just the little practice I’ve been doing daily has made a difference in my energy level.  I feel the need lately to create a new discipline of exercise and energy work, and I think this may be a good addition to my overall practice.

  • My Kung-Fu school has Qi Gong classes. I don't know what style it is, and it's fairly far south (S. First Street, a couple blocks south of 71), but it might be the style you already started learning. If it's not too far a drive you may want to check them out: http://www.usakfa.com
