As part of my preparations for beginning my 2 year shamanic studies program, I was informed that I would need my own drum. I was even given a recommendation on a good starter drum for shamanic work. I just bought this drum in the 12″ size. Now I know this isn’t necessarily the nicest drum out there, but for $29 you can’t go wrong! And since I’ll be having to travel with it, I don’t want a really expensive hand-crafted drum stuffed in my luggage. One of these days I’ll get a nice one, but I think this will do just fine for starters.

I’m actually looking forward to doing drum work. I’ve played many musical instruments throughout my life, but percussion has never been a focus for me. I actually want to get a good hand drum in addition to this one. Maybe a good djembe. Or tablas… yeah, that would be cool.  Although I know tablas are much harder to learn.  We’ll see
